Had a great ride, thanks to all those who lent me tubes for my multiple puncture episodes! You will be recompensed!

As a Group D/Easyrider, I really enjoyed the 100km ride today, finishing in under the 5 hrs. It was a lot easier to ride in a group than on my own. Most folk appreciated my 'Curly Hetchins' (it's a classic bike).
Thanks to all the organisers.
Sorry, I didn't think I have time for toast, as I had to enjoy my wife's home made energy bars!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Helen for the Ibuprophen, worked a treat

and some pain killers for Angela

These are standard rations for some long distance audax riders

i thought there were quite a lot of "main" roads

Paul, when I took on organising the VTTA Reliability Trial some years ago I spent the summer working out an audax style course using as many quiet and pretty lanes as possible. The event runs in February and at the finish I was made very aware of 2 facts
- during the winter these lovely little lanes have a lot of grit washed onto them and a lot of grit causes a lot of punctures
- when going as fast as possible riders do not pay close enough attention to the route sheet and get lost (it sounds as though nothing has changed if one of the posts above is correct)

For the next year I changed to a route using semi main roads with longer distances between junctions and so giving less chance of missing one. The current organiser still uses the same route which makes me think I got it about right.

I must say however that as a rider I share your view, which is why I prefer audax rides. (The overall average minimum speed of 9.3 mph is also an attraction!)

Hi Everyone,
Glad you enjoyed yourselves & Helen & I also enjoyed a record this year - we only burned 2 pieces of toast. Its usually double figures as we chat & forget the bread etc! I must say that we have never been asked for pills before so next year we will have a fully stocked first-aid post, with puffs of my oxygen cylinders available, especially for Kav & his fellow De Loonies (his name for them I hasten to add in case anyone takes umbrage!!) I like it, so watch the mag for more mentions of the De L.........!!!!

Helen & I also appreciate the emails I have had thanking us for the tea etc. We did miss handing out the chicken legs & sausages we had last year as the RT was the morning after the BBQ then. I think a few over-ate of these anyway last year & they found another meaning for the term "chicken legs" on that last climb before finishing!!!

I have no news yet as to our fate with the Rootes Trophy as it takes a while to sort out 400+ points.

Oh Pat - the frustration of it all!!! Jo Price and myself were struggling as we reached your place, there were bikes parked and riders hanging around having stuffed themselves on your goodies- and pills by the sound of it. However, I was keeping a time check and it was clear that Jo and I were touch and go as to whether or not we would be within our time limit. Reluctantly we pushed on which is just as well because it was tight at the end. We made it with just a few minutes to spare so we managed to get the 2x2 points in the bag. If we had stopped and failed you would have disowned us even though a cuppa would have been most welcome. Apart from that I couldn't have lived with the shame particularly as no.1 new member son had just bagged 4 points for the club. For all of that it was great day and we look forward to you keeping that trophy in your cabinet.
Thanks to everyone involved in help and organisation - a great event.

A good ride also, thanks to all involved in the organisation. To organise such good weather was especially impressive.

On the subject of how to address John Bosley on the forum, how about something a bit more "street" like J-Bo? Don't be fooled by the bikes that he's got, he's still, he's still Johnny from the block....

Why Was I the only one in my group with a propper PUMP ???
I personally recommend the use of an approved cycle helmet when riding ones bike
