SFA Kent Air Ambulance Sportive 4th May

Postby Michael Gore on Tue Apr 28, 2009 3:35 pm

Dave,
Im happy to start with you guys and try and hang on to 3:35 pace for as long as I can, doubt I can maintain it the whole way though, as I would have done a TT the day before.

When I start struggling, I drop off the back and go solo the rest of the way!
I train hard to cycle fast!

This is my first sportive and also will be my longest ride to date. I'm looking forward to it, I just hope its not going to hurt too much.

Any tips for me, especially what food/nutrition to take?

May want to lower your saddle right down, otherwise you'll never reach the pedals :D

Sounds good Dave!

Kay - go at your own pace, don't push too hard (avoid sprinting) and eat high energy food on the bike- jelly babies used to be my favourites! If it's hot then take lots of fluids too. You'll be fine!

I squeaked a Gold medal last year with 3.33, but reckon we could have gone a bit quicker (had to do a diversion around a motorcycle accident road closure at St Micheals, and also spent the first 20 miles in a slightly slower group than intended).

So I'm up for as fast a group as possible (albeit it's not a race), and also a nice early start as I have to be home to get ready for work at 1.30 pm :?

BTW Ron, where is the left turn into Rye now that we don't turn at the bottom of the steep hill due to the dodgy corner?

Sounds like we have a fast group forming? If there's room then Phill Cloke and I would like to make up the numbers as per a PM to Dave S.

Speaking to people on Saturday & today it sounds like there is more than enough for two fastish groups. Perhaps one from the top end of the A group and racing and another made up of other A group riders and top end inters. Its easy enough to sort out on the day.

I will be getting to the start nice and early. Where are people planning to meet up? I guess at the start line
I'm happy for 08:30 to 08:45 as Dave suggested :D

OK let's sort out groups out on the day - if anyone is late we won't hang around though. Given we are going for quick times I think it will be a case of looking after yourself with any mechanical issues - a bit harsh perhaps but there will be plenty of other riders to join in with once the problem is fixed.

What is the world coming to when it's the police asking for directions
After Iden when you turn left onto the A268 it's an immediate left by the Peace and Plenty pub.

You beat me to it Dave.

Carolyn will be marshalling there to make sure everyone finds that lane beside the pub.

Don't forget that to make up the lost distance you now go all the way to Goudhurst, turning Right at the Chequers pub (as per the KCA Reliability Trial)

Ron,
I'm getting a bit worried! Will I have time to get from our check point to the finish to do the timing?

Pat, your control is at 20 miles. The last riders should be away by 9.45 and even at 10mph should reach you by 11.45.

If a 9.00 group get 10 minutes inside the gold speed they will finish at 12.15.

Bob will be with me at the finish and if necessary we can time the early ones.

It does occur to me that if a bunch finishes together, club riders will need to be put in finishing order to allow the rye and back trophy to be awarded.

Should a finishing line be agreed that doesn't involve turning into the car park eg. finish line next to church gates?
