Ronde van Vlaanderen 2009

Postby Rob Mardell on Sat Dec 06, 2008 11:45 pm

Hi All,

To continue the theme of far away Sportives....well across the channel anyway. Anyone like a go at the Ronde in April next year? I am a pave fan and have just registered and its only 18 euro for the pleasure. Belguim beer and frites on saturday night and watch the pro race on Sunday....it will be a weekend to remember.

This looks good, I'm keen to have a go even if just the shorter 140km route. Its Rob's comments about the beer and frites that sold it to me!

I will look into it and see how easy it is to find accomadation.

Looks like we have a good group of Fairies going to Flanders in April....superb. How is everyones training going? There has been some emails going around about a Flanders training ride from Dorking in March. Sounds good! Maybe we can do a local one as well in March and take in every nasty hill we can....yorks, toys, ide, underiver etc......gluton for punishment!!Maybe the weekend before Flanders? Due to work and family I have been training early on Sunday morning and evenings, but hope to get out with the early Sunday group this weekend.

Rob,

My training is going ok, I am slightly concerned that the weather on Sunday will make my first sportive of the year HOA dangerous, currently the 25mph winds, -1 conditions and snow arent impressing me.

Apart from that, the XMAS 1/2 stone I put on, has now gone, so just years of eating too many cakes and drinking (possibly eating meal in a glass) too many guinesses to get rid of now.

I ll be riding that Surrey route probably 1/2 of the weekends left before the flanders, and will be down in kent for the other half.

Tim F, has an interesting route that winds its way along the greensand ridge, so maybe we all could try that one time.

Rob

I am interested in doing this, as I am free that weekend, have you all entered individually or on a group form.

Cheers

Steve,
Not to late to sign up mate...have a look at the Ronde site. I think there is 8 of us going, hotel and ferry all booked. Let me know if you are interested and I can post the hotel link

Joe,
Hope you are recovering from the Hell of the Ashdown......how did you get on? Yes a couple of Flanders training rides would be good 1 and 2 weeks before the event to fine tune the training. Lets get some dates in the diary. I have entered the Grimpeur in early March as well....65miles and tons of climbing. You fancy it? Would be good if we can meet up and do a ride or two before the event.

I wimped out, Rob. Not impressed with myself at all.

But on the positive the training is still well underway, which would not be the case if I hadnt planned to do the ride. I am on the Surrey Rumble.

I am now based in SW london, so largely come down for Intermediate rides at a couple of weekends a month.

I will look at the Grimpeur, though I think the date clashes either with leading a ride or something else. I will let you know!

Hi

Yeah thats cool, If you have changed it to London itll need to go back to kent for the time being, as I have been given time away from London for good behaviour! So the West Malling address it is.

Thanks
