Sorry to bring this up when the weather is still so good, but, i want to be ready when you know what happens!!!
Has anyone got a pair of Crud Roadracer guards, if you do, any good??
If not, what would you recommend?

Hi Ben

Just fitted a pair, rode out on them last night for first time. Pretty easy to fit and dont rattle around. Dry roads last night so can't yet comment on how effective they are. Only other observation is that they are very snug to my front tyre due to limited clearance under fork. The do fit, but are a bit close for comfort I think, so would advise a 23mm tyre unless you've got masses of clearance.

Will deliberately go out in the rain to test them out for you, how's that for team spirit!!!

Cheers

Will

Hi

I also have fitted these guards onto my Trek

I think with blacktyres they are almost invisible. The do seem to move a bit as the cable ties make the whole setup movable. I agree 23 tyres are a must.

Happy dry winter cycling

Enjoy

Well i have got some and fitted them to my Giant,
Front: no problem, plenty of clearance under the caliper.
Rear: not quite so easy, due to the curve in my rear stays, i had to space the little bracket by placing some rubber under them.
Took a bit of time but im very happy with the result.

Thanks again Will And Robert, may you never get rained on ever again.....

By the way Dean C has a Specilized Allez and the space between front tyre and caliper is very small, and the guard wont fit, i would estimate that at least 12-15mm is needed!!!!!!

You know you are getting old when you start putting mudguards on bikes, having spent all those years as a kid taking them off. That reminds me, does anyone make a carbon cowhorn handlebar?? Or maybe a titanium Grifter, now that would be cool. I was going to suggest a carbon fibre Chopper but fear I may be misunderstood, probably by John Bosley!!!!!

Went out with early inters yesterday on bike fitted with raceguards. The roads were wet early on and can happily say that bum stayed dry. In the spirit of product research I rode through some puddles.

I think the only thing that could be improved is to make the rear guard longer so it goes past the bottom bracket / front derailleur. It stops a ferw inches short and means some water and dirt gets directed onto the bottom bracket. Not a massive problem on my bike as the bottom bracket is a cartridge type I can get for about 12 quid, so even if I replace 1 a year it's worth it for a dry arse!!!

I have also fitted a set of these onto my Giant. I did have to take of the 25 tyres and put on 23 to get enough clearance. I have done over 100 miles with them on now and they are excellent. I can highly recommend them. They fit nice and snug, dont rattle or rub

I've done a couple of hundred miles with mine on the Bianchi now: Easy to fit, don't rattle, keep you dry, look in keeping with a nice road bike, light.

I'm pretty sure they would largely keep the spray off following riders as well (unlike Race Blades). They fitted nicely under my Campag brakes with 23mm tyres, but doubt they would with 25mm.

If everyone invested £25 or so in these (Nick at Senacre has them) then club runs at this time of year would be a happier and more sociable place!
