Posting Pictures to this forum.

Postby Phill on Wed Jan 28, 2009 9:49 am

There are at least 3 and 1/2 ways to post pictures to this forum that I'm aware of, all giving slightly different results in appearance and security. There may be more :)

1) Add image to post
Below the box where you enter the text of your post is a link marked "Add image to post". If you click this link it will take you to another web site called "imagshack" where you can use the "browse" and "upload" button to insert your picture. (see picture below)

Image posts ARE visible EVEN when not logged into this forum
clicking the thumbnail Image opens another page with a full size version of the image

2) Link from other web site
If you use web sites like "Photobucket" they provide a link to include photo's in this forum. Not all photo websites are the same but typically there will be a button that says "IMG" code that when you copy you can paste into the forum. (see picture below)

Linked photos ARE visible EVEN when not logged into this forum

2.5) as above but using the IMG tag
As above, but for those sites that don't provide an "IMG" link, you can create your own using the button 2nd from right in the row of buttons above the text input box.

The button inserts the following for you to use
[img]%20insert%20your%20photo%20here...%20[/img]

3) File Attachment.
When you write your forum post, to include the picture you can click on the "Upload attachment" tab below the text input box, browse for your image, click the "add the file" button.

Attachment pictures are visible EVEN when not logged in.
Attachment pictures are shown full size, so if you have a really big picture it takes up the whole of the browser (Note, you will only see the picture below if you are logged in).

Lee, there is a limit to the file size (256kb) that you can submit. I have to resample my pictures and save them as jpegs of a medium quality in photoshop to achieve this

Lee, and anyone else who comes across this problem, there is a free programme - PIXresizer - that will do what it says very easily and quickly.
Download it herehttp://pixresizer.en.softonic.com/

Phill,

Using method 2 trying to upload from Flickr. Can't find an Image key, is Flickr one of the exceptions?

IMPORTANT.

Freeforums (the service provider of this forum) has decided to move away from using "imageposter" to a new service for storing photo's. HOWEVER there will be no overlap between the old imageposter going offline on the 25th of this month and the new service coming on line possibly in 1 months time. How will this affect us ?

1) Any images on "imageposter" will be lost :!: the only way to protect your photo's will be to go to imageposter in the next couple of days and save your photo locally.

2) Is there a way for someone to bulk copy all the photos on imageposter? No. Not without manually going to each photo and downloading (I think as a group we have about 450 photos on imageposter now)

3) Can our Service provider change the cutoff date and delay untill the new service is online ? No. Apparently its beyond their control although a bit more notice would have been nice.

4) Is this just because we have a free service ? No. Even those paying for the service will have to move their photos.

5) What about pictures uploaded via the "attachment" method ? These photos will remain unchanged and relatively safe as they do not go to the 3rd party "imageposter" service.

6) Is there an easy way to see all the photos we have posted on "imageposter" ? Yes. follow this link to imageposter http://www.imageposter.com/uploads/get/708426 and select the link "other images from this forum" (just below the picture)

If you have any further questions please let me know and I'll try and answer them.

I've so far been un-successfull in finding a way to bulk dowload our pictures that are currently on Imageposter. The Service provider will not change their date of the 25th Sept to turn off this service.

I reccomend that anyone who may want to save any of these pictures that they go to Imageposter asap and download the pics they wish to keep.

Dave

You need to size your pics differently. First they only need to be 72 dpi as that is the screen resolution of computers (yours are 150dpi) and the higher the resolution the slower the load time.
Secondly you need to size the dimensions differently probably by about half the pixels they are presently set at - that's why they are not fitting on the screen and have scroll bars next to them.

cheers

thanks tony

i wanted to keep the quality high

i used photoshop to batch process them

but just tried different sizes until the quality/size was ok

i guess to avoid scrolling around viewers could right click and save

but i might have a go at your method

thanks
