SERRL Event 24

SERRL Event 24

You should all know the roads for this circuit. 100km ( 6 laps ) starting at Rolverdon, out to Bennenden, undulating road down to Sandhurst, A268 to A28 turning, down hilll and up 1.5mile climb past world of water back to Rolverdon. The finish line was at the top of the hill just as you enter Rolverdon.

First lap was fairly fast considering the undulations, I made it 25mph and that was from a standing start. 2nd / 3rd / 4th lap was break after break, I made sure to be in the break each time but nothing came of them as we were swallowed up by the peleton. I did my fair share on the front and turning big gears along the 268 to try and break the group but all to no avail.

Heading up the hill for the penultimate time several whippets launched off the front. Richard Poynter who is a damn fine climber quickly joined them (well done sir :D ). My build (and age) doesn't suit ascending as quick as the others so I just went at my pace with the peleton.

On the last lap we pulled in Richard just before Bennenden but there were still a couple off the front. As we hit the 268 for the last time the pace increased making for a very exciting turn into A28 road for the last time. The pace increased further as we hit the hill and Richard was off again with a very brave early attack.

As the peleton became a line to chase down those off the front I found room down the inside to sneak up a few positions in preparation for the steep up hill sprint ahead.

Finally the sprint went off like a rocket and did as much as I could to stay with them. I don't know final positions but well done to Richard wherever he ended up.

Well done guys! (Especially Richard for having a go in, what, only your 2nd race!?? :D )

Wish I had been there... I haven't ridden that circuit in years (apart from on club runs etc)

Roll on Redbridge next weekend...

Cheers Phil - sorry i didn't get a chance to say hi... Well done to you as well mate... Gotta have a dig on the climbs ... hahaha... As i have only really started racing/riding as the season is almost ending so im treating this seasons races as a bit of experience/experiment so as i have nothing to lose I might as well throw caution to the wind and do my Alberto Contador/Benny Hill impressions... Next season im hoping to get a proper licence and enter a few more from the start of the season.. With a good winter i reckon i could do okay... we shall see..

Joe that is only my second race - however i have to admit to training with the enemy since i last raced with you!!! You will know him I think... All im saying is he is very Irish and very fast ...

Anyway it was a good race today... Joe are you going to Redbridge next weekend...???
Team Cheryl...

Talking of such things...is it only open to people who paid the exuberant SERRL season fee?

That's the shit! It's giving it a go that gives you the confidence in the future (something I need to do a bit more at the moment  )

Hmm, I wonder who that could be? I have seen him out training when I've been over Rochester occasionally actually - wise choice of training companion 8)

Well, so far as I know, yes :( but I can ask Kim if she'll wave the rule for the last races... price seems just a little bit unfair otherwise!!

Update: Hi peoples

I did check with Kim; yes the league entry fee still stands I'm afraid, with the only consolation that you get 1 "free" entry to one of the SERRL winter league races - of your choice at least

I doubt that really entices anyone who hasn't already got a league membership card, but oh well, I tried :P
