Club track champs '09

Having just seen those results, I'd like to mention that I'm not a fan of the inclusion of points in the scratch race!

What an absolute blast track racing is! Really enjoyed myself so a massive thank you to Eric and the legions of helpers and supporters.

For a club with 400+ members it would be good to see a few more racing next year. I understand why people are perhaps a bit apprehensive about riding a fixed gear bike with no brakes, but it's such a great laugh that I would definitely encourage more to give it a bash. I too was pretty nervous to be honest, but the induction session I did the weekend before on the track was really useful and well run and VC Londres were very friendly.

I guess the other reason people might not have considered entering was lack of a suitable bike, but the track seem to have 100's of bikes in various sizes which can be loaned for only a few £££s, in fact a loan of a bike is included in the £4 they charge for the induction.

If you like to set yourself cycling goals each season, then make one of them giving the track champs a go.

Huge congratulations to Joe who was a very deserving winner. It was a pleasure to ride with (World Champion) Roly too!

Very impressed with Jodie who demonstrated great determination. Congratulations to her on her win. She'll have to think about removing the "no hope" from her forum log in name!

What a great day.

Thanks to Eric and all the helpers, especially to the starters who held the bike up while I was waiting for the off (I wasnt particularly accomplished at balancing)

Well done to Joe a worthy winner, and while it was great to see all the fast guys, there is something a little bit special seeing the rainbow stripes on a jersey pulling away in front of you.

Well done to Joe on becoming 2009 Club Track Champion. What a time I am having as I type this latest Milestone! So many great results all round our various disciplines & only so many pages for photos etc.

I do hope that many more have a go at track racing as when we held our first ever Club Championship at Herne Hill in 1975 after years of holding it on grass, (the change was one of Ted's best ideas ever as we lived near HH for 9 years after we married & went there a lot before moving to Kent) we had 17 riders from a membership of some 70-80 & in fact a photo of us can be seen on the Club website under Photos - Track. I think History is also mentioned. Almost none had raced on a hard track but we had no accidents. Some of the riders are sadly no longer with us such as Derek Wiggins, Dave's dad, & Simon Mason, both killed in tragic accidents on their bikes.

I see both both photos are labelled 1977 but I think the first one was 1975 ( I am wearing different shirts). The unnamed riders in the little group are Harold Longbottom, John's dad in cap, one of our main timekeepers in those days, & Perry Bradley on far right.

Well done to our 2 Ladies.

Big well done to Eric and all the helpers, for laying on the event.
Well worth having a go, just wish I could have kept up with the A group pace set this year.
Also a big well done to the girls for having a go.
I reckon the competition might get even more intense next year.

Thanks to everyone for the great organisation, the great support, the great tea-bar ( :D !), and probably most of all, the great bike, kindly leant to me by James Driscoll (remember him?? 8) ).

I highly recommend it now I've tried it and got over my own apprehension - as Damian says, it would be fantastic to see more of the 400 members we know exist! And really, the only way to find out whether you're any good at fixed-wheel, no-braked riding is to give it a go! Come on. You know you want to :D

Oh, and also, thanks to Dave Stocker for that really, um, attractive picture of me on the other page! I will get you back for that... :P (hopefully by getting you on the track next year!)
The car in front is a Toyota. The car behind is inevitably some git in a BMW doing their best to knock you off your bike...

I can't remember who it was, but someone was taking a lot of photos and showed me several side on shots of myself in a TT pose.

Don't suppose anyone can remember who it was?

Rob, It was me taking photos - they are with Ron who will be adding them to the website when he returns from holiday next week. I have reasonable photos of everyone 'in action' so keep an eye out for them

Thanks for that Mark!

I don't suppose you could send me a high res shot of me side on? It's the first time this year I've actually felt like I could produce power properly on that bike and would like to replicate it!
