I can probably do some marshalling, but I might be driving tractors. If no one else has volunteered nearer the time, I'll do it though.

Usually the race convoy is led by cars, Rob. But I like your uncoventional thinking :P

How are you doing on the recovery ladder by the way?
The car in front is a Toyota. The car behind is inevitably some git in a BMW doing their best to knock you off your bike...

Think of the drafting opportunities!

I'm just using my injuries as an excuse not to go training at the mo (did a TT sat morn); I cleaned my bike for the first time in months yesterday hence the week of rain. Sorry folks.

Thanks Dick for organising this event today. And thanks to all the helpers / marshalls / Tea ladies and supporters around the course. It was so nice to hear chears of encouragement (at least I think they were encouragement) at almost every corner.

Well done to Mike P for leading out the sprint with one lap to go.
And well done to Phil Webb for his persistent breaks that helped pull the pack along and kept the pace going.

Does anyone know if the rider who went down is OK? He was a bit further behind me but I heard the almighty thud and scraping of metal on the road.

Yes thanks to everyone as Phil says always nice to be surounded by your own club organisers/members .Great ride by phil C finishing well up the order to take the honours with Phil Webb riding his own race in the first few laps giving his sponsor's plenty of coverage...I was plagued by cramp so could not get invoved in the final run in hopefully can get to the bottom of it as suffered in a 50 mile TT with same type of thing so something is going wrong, was good to be part of a full scale RR though ,so will be back......."With my Uzi 9mm" Thanks all involved, got lots of respect for the big boys (Joe and Dave) whose RR's are longer and harder ...Ouch hope I am never a 2nd cat

Mike,
Do you reckon part of the cramp problem could be dehydation? The reason I say this, is when I was seriously training as a runner (I used to be one of the top kent road runners until I crippled myself! lol) on some training runs, I used to get bad cramp in my calfs, once I started drinking more fluids this problem seemed to vanish!... not saying this is your problem, but you never know! hydration can be a funny thing, and you need to do most of your hydration the day before an event, with top up on race day! I used to do this as a runner and have done the same thing on the bike, hence the reason Ive gone reasonably well on the longer tt events!

Plus your mineral levels can have a big impact on hydration and performance, I take Magnesium supplements every day as well as a multi-mineral.

may try the magnesium /don't think I was suffering overly from dehydration although some people have had cramp problems from taking creatine so stopping that may be a good start, cheers

Yeah no harm in trying the Magnesium, its not that expensive either. If your training heavily, (myself Im doing two cardio sessions on some days currently) then I have two doses of Magnesium.

In the mornings just pure Magnesium tablets, these are 300mg and I get mine from morrisons! - I have my second dose of Magnesium in the evenings around 1-2hrs after my last training, this is the Multi-Mineral tablet, which has potassion, iron and all the other minerals you need, plus 150mg of Magnesium.

Ive never tried Creatine myself so I cant comment on this, main reason being as a runner, you dont want to bulk out. though as a cyclist, for time trials this you may need to do. After training I have energy drink, plus a protein drink with it. mixing carbs and protein together, gives a much better and efficent recovery from hard training than say carbohydrates alone.

Cramp is generally a common complaint when you run low on certain minerals. Perhaps something like PSP Go might help as it is designed to replace those minerals.

A couple of years back when I was doing regular 9 hour training rides in the heat, I'd take a small bag of salt and add some to the sports drinks I topped up with en route to stop myself cramping.
