Another good day at the cross.

A bit cool, but it is winter.

A tough course, that really got the blood pumping for the main race, lots of variety, 2 killer climbs, a tight bit of single track after a short and sharp ramp and lots of mud and grassy paths in between.

Winner Darren Barclay Artic RT

49th Lee Sayers.

51st Ian Sutton

68th and 5th woman Sarah Sutton.

Nicky Hughes finished first women and just behind me and Ian

i did have the distinct advantage of having had a good nights sleep over Ian as he had been working and did not get to bed until 4am.

The under 10 course was rather straight forward and benefited the riders on 26" or 700cc wheels, Henry had a good start and fought hard for 8th out of 14.

Giant TCX with carbon fork and mtb running gear

Postby Lee Sayers on Tue Feb 03, 2009 10:38 am

Senacre Cycles made up this bike specific to my unusual requirements.

Cyclo cross specific Giant TCX frame.

I prefer flat bars, greater stability and easier to lay the bike over for corners.

MTB gearing, Deore with 22, 32, 44. front chain rings. Keeps your legs spinning especially when the going is really soft
12-25 9 speed cassette on the back.

Mavic Aksium wheels with Kenda small block 8, 32mm tyres.

Carbon seat post and forks.

weighs 21 pounds, important to me to keep the weight reasonable to try and help with my power to weight ratio.

Mike it would be some great winter training for you next season.

I hope it wasn't allowed indoors immediately after the race.

Hey, don't do us down Lee, you were 47th and I was 49th!!!

That was a bloomin' hard hour on a bike. I don't normally get affected by the cold but on Sunday it really got down into my lungs, which with the lack of sleep and those two climbs made for a fairly uncomfortable time :?
Losing the front wheel and doing a few metres on my ar*e didn't help much either! Thank you again for not running over me at that point.
You were going well all race and I'm sure you would have got me anyway not long after I came off as you then pulled out a good lead. The two places only between us is a bit deceptive in that respect.

All good stuff and I'm loking forward to the Team Champs. Hopefuly have some support out as well as riders - it's only in North Kent and could be a good social club gathering??
