VC Deal CX Event 17/1/09 Fowlmead Country Park, Deal.

Just Henry and I travelled to this none London League event today, although our very own Geoff Hodgson was commissaire.

The heavy rain first thing this morning reduced the field in numbers, which was a shame as VC Deal had made a big effort to construct a course different from the one used for LLCX back in the autumn.

The senior course provided a wide variation of tests, including 2 tarmac sections, 2 hurdles around 500mm high, lots of testing single track especially through the wooded area and a short hill that even the hard men could not ride.

In my race, after the usual tear up from the start things settled down and maybe some of that training is paying off as i could not have rode much better myself to finish 9th out of 21.

Henrys race was combined under 12s and under 10s.

He had another poor start getting dragged off the start line by a younger girl from VC Deal, however he was level into the first corner around 100m in and then rode a solid race to the finish 2nd overall but 1st out of 4 in the under 10s to take his first win of 2009 and collect the prize of £5.

Another fun day out, with a very friendly and more casual atmosphere, ideal for anyone thinking of giving it a go.

Well done Lee and Henry.
We did our own cyclocross today in the back lanes around Plaxtol.

The Easyride had some genuine off-road between Wouldham and Aylesford Priory via the Island Site. Nice to find that after 30 years living and riding around Maidstone there are still new routes to discover. I'll wait until summer before doing it again though.

Yes, well done Lee and Henry.
It made a nice change from the turbo today even if it did mean having to spend too much time cleaning the bike this afternoon. A very enjoyable ride - cheers Tony - how about some hills next time?

Yeah - sorry it was a bit flat Dave - I'll try and rectify that next week.

Very well done Lee and Henry, and good report Lee - are you after a job ? Assistant Press Sec. There's an idea....

On the London Cycle Sport website it shows you finishing 8th rather than 9th, so even better than you thought!!

Well done Henry (& dad of course)

I have managed to get Ian's report of the VC Deal event today in the Jan mag which I had just finished as its off to the printer tomorrow morning with the photo of Henry that is going to the KM. He deserves a win after racing in the foul weather we have had lately
