I think, that a training ride of a duration ie 3 hrs, with a break at a cafe/pub at the end or near would be a great idea, broken up rides are not as beneficial for this base work, also people in a hurry or not sociable can leave earlier,Job done. This winter will be my first being coached so obviously I will be riding to his advice,if this can be incorporated into a group training ride then I'll see you out there if not, looks like a lonely winter.........ps glad you all have fond memories from last winter :D

Well, the limit seems a bit difficult to maintain (and I doubt I'll find myself slowing down whilst in full swing!), but doesn't mean we won't wait for people to catch up - though I can't see this being too much of a problem if everyone is of a similar standard.

And Mike! You can't leave us alone all winter!! Bring your coach along to give us the advice as well! :P I agree with what you're saying, though - and Damian Cairns said the same at the teack meeting; for those who are short of time, an uninterrupted training ride is not only more beneficial for fitness, but means you can get back earlier. Otherwise, some people simply cannot spare most of their saturday to ride and stop for hours.

Bearing in mind that once the ride has returned to Marden, those who want to go on a further ride could always do so anyway! There's nothing stopping you - and it's something I do already anyway.

Something else me and Dave Seager were discussing the other day was whether the club itself could invest in a Garmin Edge 705 GPS bike computer that could be used to record clubrun routes (and other rides) and then be loaned out to people as and when they wish to lead a ride but don't know where they're going! The advantage of this is that the data could also be transferred to the club website and stored there for anyone to access and use in the future.
OK, it's an expensive bit of kit, but as I am now the owner of one myself, I cannot recommend it highly enough - it is an excellent tool and would be well worth the investment. Anyone got any thoughts on that? :?

Cheers all

P.S. Mr Barnes - with you out, 40 will not be enough. Oh, by the way, how was your holiday? Glad to be back - did you go out on the club run in the end? Are you still interested in going to Hog hill or something? There's one in a couple of weekends...

Mike
Don't think the A group could bear the idea of you being all alone so we would all i am sure request that you join us and give that much needed drive to get faster and fitter-well aspire to!!!
10-1 would suit most-but there is a dearth of decent stops -only want a proper coffee and a cake.
See you on Saturday then????

Thanks Michael
Joe we tried the 'new' formula today
Did 43 miles to the stop then one went straight on home as had a fixture the rest stopped for 30 mins then rode 10 miles or so back to Marden i peeled off for a lunch committment , but having got 2hours 20 straight riding done felt like we had done the hard work and it was tough-yes we couldn't stick to the speed limit not with 'Richard the steam engine' spending periods on the front!!!
So may make the stop harder to find as it ideally will be within 15 miles of marden.
Simon
ps good luck to Dave tomorrow in his big race

Echo Michael's comments, great route Simon. It was good to get a long run in prior to the cafe stop, it worked great IMO. Nice pace as well.

Hmm, yeah, finding a cafe within that kinda radius could prove difficult on successive weekends! :o Glad you had a good ride! Sounded fun, now we just need to wait til everyone else comes back from racing, then it'll be some serious pace 8)

Oh yeah, and Dave - what a nut! Doing a 70 mile ride the day before doing 11 climbs of Beachy Head in race conditions... Wish I'd done that, then I might've had an excuse...

Great to see that the new style "A" group works

I am trying to put together a rota to share the work load out who would like to Join the rota ?????????
I personally recommend the use of an approved cycle helmet when riding ones bike

Might it be worth looking at some of the pubs the Wednesday Wobblers use?

I know the Unicorn (pub in Marden) does baguettes and stuff on Saturday lunchtime as I served them when working there!

Rob, are you offering to make us some grub for when we return from club runs? :P How very kind of you sir!

Martyn is right, though - we do need a rota, I guess. The main problem I have is that all the routes I want to try out will be miles long and I haven't any idea of where suitable cafes might be and at the right distance... :? That's why I kinda like the idea of just riding without a stop  But I would prefer to add in a stop if I can find the rigth kind of places.

Joe
There have been just 15 votes on the topic -can't help thinking there are another 10 at least who have an opinion out of the 600+ viewings on the subject.
Are we to make a formal decision based on the discussions?

I think most of the 600+ viewings have been from members like me who are interested in knowing the extent of the all aspects of club member's activites but haven't the ability to join in some (many?) of them.

How many members are regular or occasional riders with the A group and what percentage of these does the 15 replies represent? I would think it's enough to make a decision, especially as they have all been constructive.
