Man of Kent 200k 29th March

Congratulations to David Winslade on organising his first Audax. Most of the 40 entrants started and enjoyed the ride from Golden Green to Charing, Bridge, Sandwich, St Marys Bay and Headcorn.

Yes indeed. Well done David!
All but two of the riders on the day made it home and all (nearly-but there's always one!) comments were favourable. A good showing of the usual suspects and one or two new faces enjoyed a 'not too lumpy' ride with an excellent route sheet. Having checked the route with David the previous week, I got to play Finish Controller (Tonight Matthew, I am going to be Richard Phipps!) and help Ron Lee out at the Charing Control, while Pat Cherry was on duty with David at Bridge.
The Man of Kent is up and running. Watch out for a series! :D
... they came from the sea onto the land ...

Thanks to Andy, Ron and Pat for all their help and support both before the ride and on the day. It ended up as an unofficial Fairies event and the comments from riders on the route, routesheet and controls (one rider suggested that the ride should be renamed the 'Well Fed 200!') were really positive so we have hopefully enhanced our Club's growing reputation in Audax circles, at least one regular West Kent CTC rider is now interested in joining us.

Golden Green Village Hall proved an excellent start/finish point with ample parking and the Vicarage at Bridge was a unusual setting for a control.

The ride is indeed up and running and already booked for March 28th 2010!
