Pro rider (for High Road I think, or whatever they're called now) Roger Hammond is doing this event. He's a multiple National CX champion, so if anyone else fancies coming along to see how many times they can be lapped by him in one hour, then feel free!

Dunsford aerodrome is also the home of the BBC's 'Top Gear'.

Hi merry Xmas everyone. I’m planning on racing at Dunsford aerodrome this Sunday, so look forwards to catching up with some of you again. I'll be honest as I can’t say I've heard of Roger Hammond before. Found a picture of him so that I can recognise him. But I’m shore he'll be the one flying around the course.Image

Hi Phil,

Yep, Hammond will be the one making it look easy as he flies past pushing an unfeasibly large gear. I watched him at the Nationals last year in Derbyshire, it was almost scary.

It will be good to see you there. Hopefully Lee and maybe James? will be joining us as well.

With just those few titles, I am not suprised Phil has never heard of him!? : But then Phil has spent his whole life in a box room sat in the dark with only a turbo trainer for company

Roger Who?

Postby PatsyHill on Sat Dec 20, 2008 1:11 pm

What about our Henry? He can go & admire Hammond & think that about 20 years ago he too was a schoolboy racer. Who knows where ?

If he does go, someone get a photo of him with Hammond PLEASE!!

Come to that, I will print anyone's photo with him.

Happy Racing

Sadly, after the big build up, Roger Hammond did not appear as he apparently had problems getting over from Belgium. What is more likely is that he saw the strength and depth of the SFACC team and decided to give it a miss rather than risk embarrasment.

Anyway, Phil, Lee (suffering from a cold), Sarah and I turned out to batter ourselves around what must be the flattest and least interesting CX course ever seen. However it was a good work out - average HR for me was 178 bpm over the hour and maxed at 186. It was also good to finish my first competitive ride in four months in one piece, albeit somewhat muddy.

Not sure of positions yet, but Phil did very well in particular and Sarah came 3rd lady and won herself £15 in the process (there were more than three ladies before anyone asks).

Henry Sayers also rode in the U-10's and did well, before being chief cheerleader for our race.

Ex-Fairy Ian Field came 2nd overall in the Senior's race (he's quite good).

Well done Sarah.
I found some photos of the event on this link http://www.cycleweb.co.uk/newsite/gallery.htm - select 'Mosquito Lodon Crosa 12' and take a look at photo numbers 45, 46, 71, 123, 187 and 206

There were points on Saturday when I thought the A run was doing a cyclocross route.

well done to both Suttons, Sarah for finishing in the money and Ian looked good in his first race since his collar bone break.

Phil Webb was up there and looked strong.

Henry finished 6th, equalling his best result in the under 10s on a tough course, half of which was a slog around a field of long wet grass.

Anyone fancy next saturday at Footscray.

or if you fancy an easier introduction there is a beginners type day on New Years Day at Herne Hill. see London League Cyclo Cross website for more details.

British cycling now have the full results and race review on its website. The race was won by Jody Crawforth Arctic/Premier with Ian Field Hargroves Cycles a close 2nd. These two put a lap on everybody else up to 8th position. I finished 35th, Ian Sutton 77th, Sarah Sutton 88th (3rd Women) and Lee Sayers 93rd out of a massive 105 starters. Ps Didn’t see the top gear stig all day very disappointed  But what a day :D
