Go Ride Summer Road Race Series

Go Ride Summer Road Race Series

Postby Miss Jodie No Hope :) on Mon Jul 20, 2009 9:26 pm

I have just returned from the first race in this series and what can I say? It was an experience and a good one at that, but I never realised that the translation of 'Go Ride' in VC Deal language meant full out racing and calling each other names as they are beaten across the finsih line.
I first realised that maybe this wasn't going to be as laid back as I had first thought when I saw a dad fully kitted out in an adidas tracksuit carrying a turbo trainer to the start line for his 12 year old son :?.
As we queued up for the start of the prologue parents came over giving team talks to their sons, as I looked over to see my mum and dad perched on a picnic beench stroking a passer by's pet dog :?. I suddenly found myself calling out for Clive :P
Well, I have never come across a time trial course so short in my life. It was over in less than 3 minutes and it would have been quicker if we didn't have to take bends at more than 270 degree angles. :?
Next up was the Under 12 road race and it was all very spread out, as they crossed the line after six laps one young boy admitted to still having two laps to complete after being lapped twice. :)
Next it was the turn of Under 14/16's and I lasted one turn on the front after I miss judged a corner and found myself on the off-road circuit instead. I threw the bike back on course and found that the boy's seemed to just disappear into the distance. The next 9 laps turned into a flat out time trial and twice more I found myself on the off-road ciruit, to my relief I was lapped with two laps still to go and I realised that I no longer had to complete the full 10 lap race :D The pain seemed to worsen when I found out that the winner of the race was a 13 year old who suffered from asthma. :(
I did not enter the handicap race in fear of loosing to a six year old but enjoyed watching it all the same. 8)
I learnt a lot tonight and found everyone very supportive. I would reccommend this to any other juniors as it is a great way to learn how to road race in a safe environment or you could even just turn up to keep me company :D
I know that I have made it seem for only the serious riders, but there was only 5 people in the Under 14/16 category and my competitors were all boys who were team mates and train with a British Coach 4 nights a week on this circuit. If there were more young people who turned up just to try it then the race atmosphere is sure to change. :)
I averaged just under 20 mph for the 10 (9) lap race but I suppose it was good practice for Wednesday night. I will be missing the next two Monday nights but think that the San Fairy Ann Juniors should turn out in force as I was over ruled by VC Deal and VC Londres. :?

Wow I just realised how long this is :? I am going to bed now. Night All. :D

Thanks Damian :D

Michael you may have to email John Scripps who is charge of it all as I only just got in because my birthday was at the begining of the season and I think that you are slightly older than me I can give you his email address if you need :D But it would definately be nice to see you there :D

Lee, yes it was at Fowlmead but they only used the top part of the circuit and some REALLY technical corners :S But the surface is incredibly smooth and very, very nice to ride on :D

Oh and btw a British Talent development coach was there and knew who I was just from an email because he had rarely seen a San Fairy Ann Junior before, we need to show them that we really do exist guys :D :D

Give it a couple more weeks and you'll work out the lines through the corners then you can really start showing them up!

Ooh, ouch! Sounds like they used the Hairpin corners on the top circuit! 8) They are nasty - I should know because us Senior riders refused to ride round them in one of the SERRL races last year! Thus proving you are made of strong stuff

Great report Jodie, look forward to hearing more :D

I did it! Well sort of....I only came off of the corner once today in the prologue time trial :)

I finished the last event in this series 11th (out of 12 :D :D :D) and worked well with another girl from Deal. Which I must say is sooo much more enjoyable and easier when you have someone to work with.
Huge well done to Jack (Evans?) another junior form San Fairy Ann that rode well in his first event to come in 3rd (or 4th :S) in the same race.

Now I just need to practice standing starts as it is quite demorilising when they all sprint from the start line and you're stuck there still trying to clip in :S
When I finally did get going they were too far to catch so paired up with another guy who had the same problem as me. When (surprisingly) I dropped him on the first hairpin corner I was left on my own for a lap until I caught up with the other girl who had dropped off from the back of the boys. We worked together for the next eight laps but she pulled away in the sprint finish to beat me on the line :)
We were both suprised not to get lapped as we both previously had not finished without gettin glapped at least once.

Tonight was great fun and I am looking to attend more races and build up my experience :)

But right now I am far too tired and am going to eat my donought and go to bed

Night :D

Well done our Jodie!!! :P If you only inspire some of those Fairy men who keep saying 'if only' about events, you will have done a good job!! What about a little article for the mag to inspire a few others. Did anyone take a photo for me for the mag?

Well done Jodie! :D Keep it up - use this as the base training and experience building for a mega showing of class-beating excellence next year! 8) You're doing us yoofs proud! *wishes I was still that age* :P (And hopefully persauding more to join in for the future)

Look forward to the next installment :)
