Fat Inters hit sweet spot

Postby simon olley on Sat Sep 05, 2009 5:07 pm

Truly excellent ride today led by Dave Law. The ride was hilly, challenging, fast in places and with an entertaining stop, all exactly like the 'A' rides of old. Seriously, club rides don't get much better than this!

What was noticeable was that there weren't loads of guys racing off the front and a healthy respect was shown for the leader and his very well-chosen route. About 18 riders including three of the Fairies' fastest ladies made a fantastic well-balanced group.

Much as I'm sure we all missed the camaraderie and company of the 'A' group racers, it was a relief to not have to keep trying to catch them up or feel guilty for leaving others (the leader for example) behind. I'm sure the 'A' ride found their ride today equally fulfilling without having to keep waiting.

Long may it continue!

Only one thing, 'Fat Inters' :( who thought up that name?

The name of the group should not be a refelction on who or what you are, but what you aspire to be :)

Having made one of my far too rare raids from the Inter's to the Fat Inters, I thoroughly enjoyed David's route and coffee stop, 'twas a bit up and down on the way out (but nothing too strenuous) followed by an hour on the flat pushing a big gear and rocking along at a decent lick back to Marden, Chapeau!

Mike, if we're getting into re-naming the groups, I'd propose basing all the club rides on the 'Fairies' theme, hence:

'A' ride becomes... The Fairy Fast Boys (mmm, nice!)

'Fat Inters' becomes.. The Terrible Trolls (that's the group I ride with at the moment, so we get the best name)

Intermediates becomes... The Halfway Hobgoblins

Early Intermediates becomes... The Premature Pixies (my wife says I should join this group)

'B' ride... The Grumpy Old Goblins (well, none of us are getting any younger)

Easy Riders... The Mounted Elves (yes, even Elves have fun, you know)

Sure there's better, but you get the idea...

Great to read about the fast inters ride yesterday, sounds like Dave picked a good one, he always comes up with the goods, I enjoy doing daves rides when I get the chance.

Glad also to read that no body was flying off at like 40-50mph and leaving the leader behind, I know how this feels as the previous 2-3 rides Ive led, its been really tough for me, to keep the group together with a-riders being with the fast inters, hopefully now the racing season is finished, the race guys can stick to the a-group, which is where they should be training, and then the fast inters can be exactly what the name suggests, a step up from intermediate pace, and also much better for the likes of both myself and Dave to lead over future weeks! :)
I train hard to cycle fast!

Hi Simon
I love the Fairy theme, it really made me laugh, but don't forget the C group, I'm sure Georgina would have a suggestion or two.
