That's terrible news. I guess that we, as cyclists, all expect bike related incidents, but this is just plain nasty.

Here's to hoping you're back on the bike in the not too distant future.

Ronnie, Dick's wife, has just phoned me & has given me up-to-date info re his injuries. He is not out of the woods yet but all the important items are working OK. His spleen was damaged but it has been repaired. They are keeping him sedated (not really a coma) while they work on the various painful injuries he sustained, a deflated lung now OK, broken legs, one arm, facial injuries, broken teeth, 4 damaged vertebrae in lower back.etc. plus the tracheotomy. Like most really fit bikies re able to do in accidents like this, he is holding his own, & was actually able to smile when Andrew his son told him he was borrowing his bike & shoes & having a go on Dick's rollers while over here!

Ronnie has asked me to thank all the many people who have sent cards & messages. She is overwhelmed by the amount of good-will that has come their way.

I will be able to give the Club an up-to-date account of Dick's progress in the next mag out early September. Meanwhile I have told Ronnie that everyone sends their best wishes to Dick.

Update - Just spoken to Ronnie he's making good progress & some stitches have been removed already. Some of the breathing app was removed yesterday & he could talk a bit.

I dropped in to see Dick for a few minutes today. All things considered he was looking really well. He was in good spirits, but is obviously frustrated by being stuck in a bed all day. He still can't talk at all due to the tracheotomy tube in place, but writes down questions or answers on paper.

Ronnie said there is no indication when he might come out of ITU, it seems to be a case of wait and see. He was keen to hear the club news and that everyone is thinking about and wishing him well.

Just spoke to Ronnie re news of Dick to go in the Milestone. He is doing well & has emerged from a few days of 'muddle' due to the drugs he's on. Hes writing down things to remember, is giving the nurses some 'stick' & generally is progressing better than they expected considering his injuries. He has a slight infection in his chest so they have got him upright in bed with loads of antibiotics going in. As far as they can see both legs are healing OK & they think he will be in hospital about 2 months, so when he's in a ward, no doubt he will relish lots of visitors. I have had several emails from all over the UK after Sid Lovatt in Ted's club sent my original email around all the people Dick knows in the UK RR world.

Dick is stll being fed intravenously but his first wish will be for a chedddar ploughmans & a pint of guinness!!

Ronnie has specifically asked me to thank all the masses of people who have sent good wishes, she has lost count but she & Dick are really grateful for all the messages.

Latest news hot off Ronnie's press

Dick is making a remarkable recovery & from the initial hospital prognosos of a stay of 10 weeks she feels it could be only 6 weeks until he gets back home. He is out of bed daily in a chair (with legs stretched out!) eating mince, talking OK, & generally doing well. Andy & Paul have gone back to OZ & the USA - Andy had a few good RR results while here - & now it's a case of a gradual healing. Dick is still in HDU but they are looking for a side room for him, meanwhile visitors are welcome after say 10.30 for an hour & in the afternoon after say 2pm (I think that's what Ron said).

Pass this on to non PC users.

Just talking to Clin Maisey this evening and he mentioned that Dick has been moved into Mercer ward today. He was up there with his wife for her first session of chemo and whilst she was in having treatment he went looking for Dick and found him in Mercer having only been in there about 10 mins.!
He said that Dick looked remarkably well considering all things.
