Club cross champs (LL round 4 - 18th October)

Club cross champs (LL round 4 - 18th October)

Postby Rob T on Thu Oct 08, 2009 12:05 pm

The event's going to be held at the usual place in chainhurst which is about 3 miles outside Marden. Any club members with an off road bike have no excuse not to ride!

Just to let everyone know, the circuit this year will be largely similar to last year. We've added in an extra little fiddly bit near the start for the amusement of spectators though!

Who's racing this year?

Finally, how long does everyone think the nice wide starting straight should be? We can make it anything up to about 1.5 miles long!

Excellent Rob the circuit last year was great. Probably one of the more challenging circuits on the cross calendar. I seem to remember a fiddly bit near the start last year to. It was marked out using tape and ended up being flattened by the end of the race. A long straight would prevent a bottleneck going into the first turn in theory but maybe not necessary. I will be there to show a great performance from the home club/hosts. :D :D :D

That fiddly bit on the exit of the woods will be far easier this year (it slowed me down too much ;) )

The new bit is fairly close to the start (before the first pond from last year). It's an easy dip into a dry pond with very loose top soil. Coming out of the pond requires a sharp right U-turn up a short very steep bank. Unless your name is Phil, you'll probably be off the bike to do it!

Come along to the off road chaps this week to recce it!

I think the bit that caused all the punctures won't be in the race next week. FWIW, it's that gravelly path so I'd walk to the start rather than riding it!

Rob is that the track that goes from the car park all the way along to grassy area where last years start was? or just the first bit to where we started yesterday?

I'm not quite sure. I'm just going to avoid the whole path by bike!

edit - I've now reviewed which thorny hedgerows were 'mown' and the off road course went past most of them while the cross should avoid them.

Hi folks.
I always look forward to our event. last year i was lucky to stay upright and get 2nd club finisher. dont think i stand a chance this year with the way mr Sayers, Mr and Mrs Sutton and Mr Webb are riding. lets see how Rob gets on this year as he pushed me all the way last year.
see you on the line.
ps after riding with a very high heart rate last race, and speaking to the heart team here at my Hospital, i will be wearing a 48hr heart monitor this weekend. please pass me wide and slow.

Hope the tickers OK, see you sunday.

I've just been riding the new section of the course and I hope you'll all enjoy it! I'd highly advise riding it before the event though as the exit from it is a little tricky; I've managed it 0/10 times so far!

Anyone want to come and pre-ride the course on Saturday*?

*you might need to help string up some tape if it's not quite been finished by then.

Just went riding around the course with Phil. He rode the new bit first time. Then again, I watched as he also rode up the ditch that only two guys got up last year!
