Club cross champs (LL round 4 - 18th October)

Re: Club cross champs (LL round 4 - 18th October)

Just went riding around the course with Phil. He rode it first time. Then again, I watched as he also rode up the ditch that only two guys got up last year!

Excellent course all, great venue. I got a sneaky practice in today on the mountain bike. The course was dry and hard and should produce an awesome race tomorrow. The two ditches were ride able in practice on the mountain bike with a clean run-up but it will be a different matter in the race and it may prove faster to dismount. Thanks Rob for showing me around and the use of the land.

Another great event today thanks to the army of S F A helpers, marshals, supporters and riders.
Thanks to Rob and family for letting us use the farm again this year. this years course was the best yet, very fast and dry.
I'm quite pleased with my ride today although I couldn't hang on to the shirt tails of Ian and Lee. I cant believe I got piped on the line by Steve. well done mate.
Great to see you all, and really good to see Dick Naylor.

Thanks again to everyone that gave us a shout.

Thanks all round, great organisation, course, tea bar, signing on, first aid, photographer, kit vehicle and marshalling all great. Wou

Huge number of riders which did make for a very congested first lap, but once things spread out you were able to flow and get into a good rhythem.

8 fairies in the main race, with Phil ebb coming out comfortably on top.

4 boys in the under 10s with Joeseth Peal top rider in 6th getting the better of Henry, 7 year olds Harry Bradford (on his new bike) did great with his mate Hamish close behind.

Big fairy day out in a lovely setting on a very pleasant autumn day.

Thank you everyone envolved.

Wish I could have been there.

If any of the photographers send me pictures I'd like to put some on the club website.

Tim got some great photos of crashes* on Ian's camera.

*easier to take a photo of someone when they're not moving!

Thanks everyone, I had a great time, and will certainly do some more cyclocross now. Not that I know much, but really enjoyed the course, and thought everything was well organised and well run.

The great thing about cyclocross is the contrast you get from one week to the next and in this case from one year to the next.

For everyone that missed last year - cold, windy, heavy rain, a very boggy course in places and really muddy! True cyclocross conditions. This year in sharp contrast warm sunshine, not windy, a very dry hard packed fast course and very dusty.

The one thing that remained the same regardless of the weather was the strong SFACC team that turned up last year to help Geoff Hodgson - turned out again in numbers to help today including Dick signing on the riders and Ronnie helping on the tea bar all day, it was great to see him looking so well. Thank you to everyone that gave up their Sunday to run the race, as we all know without their help it would never happen. I made good use of the first aid when my right leg had a bit of a scrape with my chain ring, thank you to Kate Anderson for cleaning and dressing it.

And we had a great race, another excellent course with a new section and maybe a little bias but a lovely setting for a race ( thank you Rob and Family). Phil Webb defended his fairy title to win the Club Cyclocross Championship again and I hope he goes for a hat-trick next year. Second and third places were very hotly contested between Ian, Lee, James and Steve. In the end Ian managed to edge ahead of lee with James and Steve racing right to the line. Completing the fairy racing line up Phil Bendall,Philip Harris and myself. Tim made full use of Ian's camera and took some great action shots including Rob T having his lunch! I'll get Ian to upload some photos to the forum tomorrow afternoon.

If you're tempted to have a go you should, next race 25th October ( same day as KCA RT) or even better on the 8th November at Fowlmead.

Would there be any interest in holding an off road version of detling on my farm one Sunday when there's no other races on?

that would be great fun Rob, count me in, you may also find a few others would enjoy the ride but without feeling put off by the highly competitive nature of X or forking out £12.

Great day yesterday. Mant thanks to Steve for the inner tube, Ian for the pump, Lee for the Tyre lever without whom I would not have competed.
Thanks also to the supporters who kept egging me on, except 'your only 5 minutes behind the leader' Martin

Note to self: Must take spares & tools next time.
Next time?

I would be interested in riding again. I thought it was a great course and day, shame I couldn't ride (OK so I bottled it as Im not that fit !). Could we hold another junior event as well as my Harry is desperate to race again !!!

That would be great Rob. I would definitely benefit from practising on a technical course.

If I were to run something like that, what would the position be on something like insurance. I'm assuming no one would sue me, but anything's possible!

I'll make enquiries of our insurers. It would mean making it an official club event ( event in the way that clubruns are, not the racing version.)

Suggest we put this in a separate thread - a suitable heading might attract more interest.
