Can we build up a library of routes to encourage new leaders

Postby TimFeneron on Mon Oct 27, 2008 10:43 pm

Thanks Ron.

Not sure how to get round the non-IT literate wannabe leader issue; perhaps we could develop a library of 3 or 4 "safe for new leaders" routes / per ride group and print off as and when required?

I hit a bit of a snag when I tried uploading a 200k audax as it said the file was too large. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem.

I'm thinking of riding the Upper Thames 200k on 9th November and found the route has been plotted on Bikely with 265 points.

Thanks Ron.

So do you think my 11,750 might have been a little excessive then? ;o)

Notes to self...

See you this evening.

Cheers,

Tim.

Ron / Tim
I think you have a plan which will work.
The combination of pdf files with an index and a GPX file with either instruction on how to upload it to Bikely or a link to the uploaded route on Bikely. The "wannabe" ride leaders who are not IT literate won't be looking at the website? If they don't do even that then it's back to paper folders, if they can look at the website, their PC is attached to a printer and they can follow simple instructions the printing of a pdf is not too much of a challenge.
I can help with converting files; if someone gives me an ftp link I can help upload files. I can write the html pages / indices.
I will even ride routes to test the descriptions / help write descriptions. I guess you can "moderate" as you are the knowledgeable ones?
Consider me as a willing secretarial resource, the routes I have of my own are not suitable right now as they all start and finish in Shadoxhurst (strange that).
