British cycling Kent mtb championships 2009

Postby phillip webb on Fri Aug 21, 2009 7:01 am

Hi just thought I'd share my latest race results to round of the Kent mountain bike championships 2009 (This is the first year it has been organised). For those who don't know British cycling organised four short course go-ride races of which you didn’t even need a licence, just pay and race. One hour off-road.

The first race was held at bedgebury June 13th. It was a small 3km circuit thought some very twisty single track. A few riders from our club were there such as Henry & Lee Sayers. On this warm day I took my first ever race win to put me in contention for the championship.

Next came Fowlmead county park near deal and on a Thursday evening they held there summer sizzler race. Unfortunately I suffered a puncher on lap one which put me in 94 place (last) but I carried on to finish an amazing 17th.

Then it was back to Bedgebury forest on July 18th. It was another hot and sunny one and I won again to keep my hopes for the trophy alive.

Ok so now for the fourth and final race back all the way down to Betteshanger on a Thursday evening to round of the series. I lined up with some top names such as Gary record and Mark field. I had to do well as the idea is that you can drop your lowest result so only three of the four races count but as I had that 17th spot to shake of there was no rest for me.

So I raced my heart out in SFACC colours but overcooked it on a dusty downhill and cut my knee. I carried on and finished 2nd only 29 seconds of the leader a guy who later told me is going for expert status. So to sum up I still waiting for official confirmation but I believe I'm Kent’s first MTB champion a title which makes me very happy.

Congratulations Phil. Fantastic result. I don't feel so bad now that you beat me to the top of every climb last time I did the A run !!!!!

Awesome stuff Phil 8) See you tomorrow where we can hopefully chatr about it (if I can keep up with Kent's newest champ! 8) )
The car in front is a Toyota. The car behind is inevitably some git in a BMW doing their best to knock you off your bike...
